Pope Francis has appointed Monsignor Godfrey Onah as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, Enugu State.

The bishop-elect was born in Imilike Ani, Enugu, Nigeria in 1956 and was ordained a priest in 1984.
The bishop-elect was previously vice rector of Rome's Pontifical Urban University and is a consultor of the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops.
He succeeds Bishop Francis Emmanuel Ogbonna Okobo, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same diocese the Holy Father accepted, upon having reached the age limit.
Okobo is the pioneer bishop of Nsukka Diocese when the diocese was curved out from Enugu Diocese in 1990. The diocese would ever remain grateful to Okobo as the pioneer bishop of the diocese who worked tirelessly to develop the church.
